Creating trusting relationships is Job 1 for Police and Principals

By March 8, 2018 No Comments

Last week, PC Principals Anthony Madry from Central High School and Principal Cleora Taylor from Northeast Middle school attended the Police Foundation annual dinner with PC Adviser volunteers Judy Burge and Carol Hallquist. Major Karen True joined the Principals Connect table and gave us a new perspective about the role of police officers in our schools. Major True explained that policing is first and foremost about building relationships–that having police staff creating personal connections, was the best deterrent against crime. Principal Madry reports that his Resource Officers are more than security reinforcements—they also coach sports teams at Central High School and are extended members of his leadership team. Resource Officers get to know and understand Central’s students.   Central’s students KNOW they have Madry’s support. Every student has the principal’s personal cell phone number and know they can contact him day or night. And they do!

Students who know you care, care to learn. And students at Central ARE learning. Recent state test score reflect the positive changes and strong relationships that have been built between teachers, leadership and students.
