PrincipalsConnect Welcomes New Schools and Principals!

PrincipalsConnect is thrilled to welcome principals from the following schools to the family! These principals have the opportunity to connect with our network of advisers to collaborate on innovative solutions that benefit kids in Kansas City.

East High School | Luis Hinojosa, Principal of East High School, joins our 2018-19 cohort of principals. He’s taught middle school, served as a high school assistant principal and elementary principal, and was recently named 2018 Principal of the Year by the Kansas City Public School’s Division of Academics. East High School is one of the largest and most diverse schools in the Kansas City Area, with more than 40 languages and countries represented.

Faxon Elementary | Kathleen Snipes joins PrincipalsConnect as a 29 veteran with Kansas City Public Schools. She has been the Principal at Faxon for the last seven years. She previously served as a classroom teacher, mentor, instructional coach, and assistant principal. As one of KCPS’ neighborhood schools, Faxon offers a variety of programs and services aimed to serve both the student and his/her family.

Garcia Elementary | Rejéanne Alomenu is the Principal of Primitivo Garcia Elementary School. She has served there for the last three years. She’s passionate about designing and implementing interventions for struggling students. Primitivo Garcia Elementary School is a neighborhood school that serves approximately 380 students ranging from preschool through sixth grade. Garcia implements “The Leader In Me” program, based on the principles of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People developed by Steven Covey.

KIPP KC Elementary School | Kurt Bunnelle is the Principal at KIPP KC Elementary School, which serves over 300 students in grades Kindergarten through fourth grade. Principal Bunnelle is passionate about reading and plans to utilize PrincipalsConnect to spread that passion to his students and staff. KIPP Endeavor Academy aims to bring the opportunity for quality education to those students living in areas without access to high-performing schools.

King Elementary | Jarius Jones, a Kansas City, Kansas native and 17-year veteran educator, is presently serving as the Principal of Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School. Dr. Jones launched an innovative math program in Kansas City, Kansas schools that have helped improve math scores and inspired passion for learning in over 1,000 students annually. As one of KCPS’ neighborhood schools, King is a trauma-sensitive school, with the goal of helping all students feel safe, welcome and supported.

Trailwoods Elementary |  Principal Leah Starr has been proudly passionate about student learning since she began her teaching career in 2002. Her love for student growth and development has grown from her 16 years of service in education for Kansas City Public Schools. Trailwoods serves approximately 400 students from diverse backgrounds. Principal Starr and her staff believe that every student has the ability to be a leader, and aim to foster a school environment that nurtures and supports their leadership abilities.

Longfellow Elementary | Dr. Jimmie Bullard has over 20 years’ experience in the field of urban education. She has a strong background in educating the urban learner and is a proud product of the Kansas City Missouri Public Schools. Dr. Bullard joined PrincipalsConnect during the Beta Test phase and will continue as part of the network for the upcoming school year. Longfellow Elementary is a neighborhood school in the KCPS program with strong parent and community support and a focus on social awareness.
